22 Apr Interview with Studylog User George Bounoutas
George is a Scientist at Editas Medicine, an adventurer, a martial arts enthusiast, and a dedicated Studylog user of almost two years.
How long have you been in the science industry?
What are your biggest strengths when it comes to your job?
[I am good at] subretinal injections, expert in in vivo pharmacology, knowledgeable about ophthalmology and oncology. I am good at organization and managing multiple breeding lines, and have handled many CRO collaborations.
What is your favorite Studylog feature?
The ability to scan animals and immediate data input for the animals. Also, being able to transfer the data from one computer to another, vivarium to desktop office.
What do you think the least used Studylog function is?
Scheduling because I’m not managing that many studies at once, and I was the only user in the lab of Studylog.
You were the only user of Studylog at your company. What was the inspiration to expand the software use and increase the amount of licenses?
I was promoted to head of animal services and everything was my responsibility. The user base of animal studies was expanding rapidly. I needed to be able to have more consistency and force compliance of animal welfare. It improves efficiency so much that I wanted everyone to reap the same benefits. Having the ability to print out an Excel sheet that has all of the information from the study and drag it into the ELN makes your life way easier.
What was the most significant challenge that you faced that Studylog was able to solve?
Record keeping was so much faster that I was able to increase the number of animals that I was working on. Instead of writing everything by hand, pushing a button for instant data recording was so helpful. 200 BWs now take a couple of hours instead of all morning.
What are the 3 things that are always in your fridge?
Milk, soda, beer.
